You don’t have to go far in San Francisco’s Mission district before finding someone who knows and loves Rainbow. It’s been a bay area landmark and staple since 1975 and we couldn’t be more proud to have our product sold there!

Who They Are

“Not just a supermarket” is an understatement. While Rainbow Grocery sells a slew of local, vegetarian, and delicious goods, their product variety isn’t totally what sets them apart. Rainbow is particularly unique because it’s a worker owned cooperative. This means that the same folks who re-stock goods, chat with you in the check-out line, and post on Rainbow’s social media are also all decision makers and owners in the company. There’s equality, not hierarchy, in the company structure; everyone’s got a say and it’s all equally valuable. What They Sell

What’s a grocery store without the finest and tastiest of foods? Rainbow has the yummy product side figured out down pat. Along with shelf stable items like Wise Goat sauerkraut, nut butters, and tinctures, they’ve got a spread of produce, cheeses, wines, baked goods, and housewares. It’s a one stop shop and you can always count on the highest quality. Rainbow vets every product they sell to make sure it’s locally made, sustainable, and has a minimal negative social and ecological impact. They’ve done all the hard work for you. Phew.

Why They’re Different

Unique to Rainbow is that they’re not just a place where you can make purchases. They’re an organization that is present in the community, both with their time and resources. Rainbow has a grant program and gives donations and sponsorships to places that share their values- values like education, clean and renewable energy, supporting liveable wages, and creating a diverse, non-discriminatory multilingual environment (the list goes on!) They’re huge supporters of education- from child care to schools to teachers- and provide a Scrip Program to support the next generation’s education.

Next time you’re in The Mission, in need for some tasty Wise Goat products, and want to explore and support an awesome grocery store, stop by Rainbow- you won’t be disappointed.
